|Origin of the Brand Name
Founder Pieter was originally a whiskey enthusiast and the brand name Malternative reflects this change in mindset. The word "Alternative" originally means a substitute or an alternative choice; by adding an "M" at the beginning, it refers to another option besides "malt beverages." This is not a rare term; Whiskyfun often uses this word when mentioning brandy and rum.

With so many brown spirits available, why choose cognac? The answer is passion. Pieter loves the unique smoothness, fruitiness, and pleasant woody notes of cognac. For him, cognac brings a more personal emotional connection, and the process of exploring cognac is always exciting.
|Brand Achievements
Since the establishment of the brand in 2019, a total of 21 bottlings have been released, featuring many astonishing old vintages. 1925, 1913, 1906, 1911... In comparison, those whiskies distilled in the 1960s and 1970s have become the middle generation.

Not all old whiskies are better; the most important factor is quality. Whiskyfun has awarded Malternative four scores of 91 and three scores of 90, while WhiskyNotes has given one score of 92, three scores of 91, and six scores of 90, covering various age ranges. Moreover, the high scores continue to increase...
|Challenges and Success
Selecting these cognac for bottling is a lot more difficult than imagined. In the cognac region of France, 95% of the spirits are sold directly to well-known big brands, with only a few small distilleries retaining a small quantity that has been perfectly aged for decades. Then, a foreigner walks in and says, "I want to try your old spirits and then bottle them under my brand for sale." This challenging task was accomplished by Pieter.
|Passion and Sharing
Pieter has his own cognac aging cellar and eagerly shares how the humidity in the cellar affects the alcohol concentration, thereby influencing the balance of the spirits. During our meeting, Pieter continuously talked about cognac with sparkling eyes. Cognac that’s been selected with such passion, it is sure to win hearts.
