|Brand Origin and Name

Martin Diekmann has been involved in whisky since 1998. He was a member of Malt Maniacs until he founded Maltbarn in 2011 in the Stadland area along the North Sea coast of northern Germany. Living on an old farm with a very large barn (20 x 30 meters), the name Maltbarn naturally emerged.

|Minimalist Packaging and Exquisite Labels

Maltbarn never uses wooden boxes or gift packaging, so the first thing you will notice is the label.
Martin truly enjoys selecting interesting labels, such as photographs of the scenery near his home, works by artists he admires, and even two series that feature family photos—some from his grandmother, parents, and himself. He believes that the whiskies he chooses are excellent on their own, and pairing them with these meaningful labels makes them even more special and enjoyable.

|Cask selection

It’s as simple as only bottling whiskies that he likes. He has a preference for older whiskies because, in most cases, older spirits mean more depth, more flavour, and richer layers, making them more interesting. While there are good young whiskies, he generally prefers those aged 18 years or more. He enjoys mineral and dry whiskies, and his early bottlings often leaned in that direction. Nowadays, this style seems harder to find, so he takes his time and only bottles what he truly loves.
