Founded in 1819, the current operational site is actually a new facility built next to the original one in 1967. The distillery utilizes clear wort, a high proportion of wooden washbacks, and six bulbous-shaped stills paired with shell-and-tube condensers. A unique aspect of its production process is the design where the spirit stills are larger than the wash stills, as well as the deliberate retention of oily residues during its annual maintenance and cleaning to preserve its signature waxy character.
